Description

M63 / NGC 5055 The Sunflower Galaxy (CVn) - A flower blooming in the summer light

Galaxy season is supposedly already passed the corner for some months … or, in my case, passed the corner of the house. Although I had started capturing some galaxies (see my posts on the Markarian Chain), clouds and other mishaps prevented me from capturing any other galaxies … at least not fully complete, until now I managed to capture some missing data on M63. Only 4 hours of data, but just enough to bring out detail and colour. A straight processing of LRGB, showing some nice detail in the core of the galaxy and some of the fainter outflow

Messier 63 or M63, also known as NGC 5055 or the seldom-used Sunflower Galaxy,[6] is a spiral galaxy in the northern constellation of Canes Venatici with approximately 400 billion stars.
This galaxy has a general lack of la arge-scale continuous spiral structure in visible light, so it is considered a flocculent galaxy. However, when observed in the near infrared, a symmetric, two-arm structure is seen
M63 is a weakly active galaxy with a LINER nucleus – short for 'low-ionization nuclear emission-line region'. This displays as an unresolved source at the galactic nucleus that is cloaked in a diffuse emission.

Never give up on old data. Sometimes months later, the missing pieces of the puzzle come together.

Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭
